Looking for that perfect summer play spot? The Fort Sam Houston splash pad is the place for you and your family. It’s part of the Youth Complex, located at 3323 Dodd Road, on Dodd Field. Since it is a part of the base, adults will need valid military ID, but the facility is free and provides much fun on a hot Texas day for kids of all ages. Parents will find welcome shade and seating at the adjacent picnic tables, and if the children happen to tire of the water, there is a playscape right there.
The Fort Sam Houston splash pad opens in April and can be used from 9 a.m. – dark until it closes in early November. During June and August the area is reserved for summer camp until 3 p.m. and open for others to use after that. To check on availability before going, a contact number of the Youth Sports and Fitness building is 210-221-3502 or 221-4882. The office is open Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
There is also a skate park which can be used after turning in a signed permission form to the Youth Center. A wonderful new play area is a Boundless Playground where all ages with disabilities can enjoy play activities along with everyone else. It is possible to celebrate a birthday or have a family reunion at the Fort Sam Houston splash pad for a fee and by reserving ahead of time with the Youth Center.
